Painting Control 60 Series
Question:
Can the Control 60 Series Pendant Speakers be painted?
Answer:
Yes. The enclosures of the JBL Control 60 speakers can be painted to match almost any décor. The material is high impact polystyrene and it accepts a wide variety of paints well.
1. Remove the grilles by pulling gently with a pick at the 4 points where the grille tabs are. Rotate between points around the grille a little at a time until the grille comes off.
2. Mask the baffle, being careful that no tape comes into direct contact with the drivers. Mask the top connector panel and suspension bracket.
3. Lightly clean the enclosure with a light solvent such as mineral spirits by rubbing using a lightly dampened cloth. Do NOT use abrasives. Do NOT use gasoline, kerosene, acetone, MEK, paint thinner, detergents or other chemicals – use of these cleaners may result in permanent damage to the enclosures.
4. Apply two or more thin coats of either latex or oil‐based paint to the enclosure. Latex paints will adhere better if an oil‐based primer is used first. Application can be by rolling, brushing or spraying.
5. For the grille, remove the stick‐on grille logo. There is a permanently affixed backing, so spray enough to impart the color, but not so much as to clog the backing or fill the perforation holes in the grille. If you can see light through the grille when you hold it up to the light, it's OK.
6. When dry, re‐affix the stick‐on grille logo back onto the center of the grille. Reinstall the grille by pressing the grille's 4 taps into the slot on the enclosure baffle.
