Overview:

The XLS Drive Core 2 amplifiers include an Aux connector on the back that supports a remote sleep trigger.  When the amplifier enters Sleep mode, it reduces power consumption and stops audio output.  This feature works similarly to other HARMAN amplifier lines like the Crown DCI Drive Core, CDi Drive Core, and JBL DSi 2.0.

What you will need:

You'll need a 3 pin 5.0mm pitch Euroblock connector, not included with the amplifier.
Compatible HARMAN part numbers include 138330-1 and 142812-1.

How to trigger Sleep mode:

Basic Method (Using a Dry Contact Closure or direct connection)

  1. Connect the Sleep pin to Ground on the Aux connector while the amplifier is powered on.
  2. The amplifier will:
    • Power down its outputs and display.
    • Flash the blue panel LEDs once per second to indicate it is in Sleep Mode.
Note: The blue LED flash cannot be disabled.

To wake the amplifier, simply open the connection between Sleep and Ground.

Alternative Method (Using a 12VDC Trigger with a Pull-Down Resistor)

  1. Connect a 1.4kΩ to 2kΩ, ¼W resistor between Sleep and Ground on the Aux connector.
  2. Wire the 12V trigger as follows:
    • +12V to Sleep pin
    • Ground to Aux Ground

When 12VDC is ON, it pulls the Sleep pin high, waking the amplifier.
When 12VDC is OFF, the resistor pulls the Sleep pin low, putting the amplifier into Sleep Mode.

Power Savings:

In Sleep Mode, an XLS1502 amplifier drew ~0.26A, compared to ~0.50A at idle awake, when powered via 124VAC.  Other amplifier models will show similar power savings.
