Why won't the Automator Palette Manager allow me to remove a third party Node?

Answer:

If any Project in Automator contains a Node you are trying to remove, you will see a message saying "in use" in the Palette Manager. In order to delete the 3rd party node from Automator you must delete the Node or Project from Automator and then restart Automator.
