Automator - UI Navigate Node | MUSE
In this video, you’ll learn how to use the UI Navigate node in MUSE Automator to control touch panel navigation and create seamless user experiences. We’ll cover essential techniques like page flips, showing and hiding popup pages, and sending custom commands directly to your panel. You’ll also learn how popup pages behave across page transitions and how to properly manage them within your flows. By the end, you’ll be able to design smooth, intuitive navigation for your touch panel interfaces.
What You’ll Learn:
• Using the UI Navigate node for touch panel control
• Creating page flips and managing navigation flow
• Showing and hiding popup pages effectively
• Sending custom commands directly to the panel
• Understanding popup behavior during page transitions
• Designing intuitive and user-friendly UI navigation
• Best practices for managing panel navigation in Automator
Hello, and welcome to this video on the UI Navigate node in Muse Automator. The UI Navigate node can be used to trigger page flips, show and hide popup pages, and send custom commands to an AMX Touch Panel device or Panel Group.
We will begin with a Controller node already configured to connect to our Muse controller, and a Control Panel node configured with our touch panel information. We also have a touch panel file loaded on our Varia panel that includes two main pages and two popup pages.
For our first example, we will use the UI Navigate node to show and hide a popup page. Drag and drop a UI Navigate node onto the canvas and double click it to open the node settings. Give it a friendly name of Show Popup 1, select our panel named dvTP, choose the Pop Up Show command, select Popup 1 from the tree of panel pages, and then press Done.
Next, select the node we just created and copy and paste it to duplicate it. Open the settings of the copied node and change the friendly name to Hide Popup 1, change the command to Pop Up Hide, and press Done.
Now, add two Inject nodes, wire them into the inputs of the two UI Navigate nodes, and deploy the project. We can now use the Inject nodes to test our flow. When the Inject node connected to Show Popup 1 is triggered, Popup 1 is displayed and attached to the currently active page on the touch panel. When the Inject node connected to Hide Popup 1 is triggered, the popup page is detached and hidden on the touch panel.
Next, we will look at the Page Flip option in the UI Navigate node. Drag and drop another UI Navigate node onto the canvas and open its settings. Give it a friendly name of Flip to Main, select the Control Panel named dvTP, choose Page Flip as the command, select the page named Main, and press Done.
Now, copy and paste the node we just created and edit its settings. Change the friendly name to Flip to Page 2, select Page 2 from the list of pages, and press Done. Wire Inject nodes to each of the UI Navigate nodes and deploy the project. You can now use the Inject nodes to trigger page flips and observe the page changes on the touch panel.
It is worth noting that when you use the UI Navigate node to show a popup page, the popup is attached to the page that is currently displayed when the command is issued. If you perform a Page Flip to navigate to a new page, the popup will not appear on the new page. However, when you navigate back to the original page, the attached popup will be displayed again. To fully detach the popup, you must either use the Pop Up Hide option while the touch panel is displaying the page or close all popup pages.
We can use our existing flow to demonstrate this behavior. With the touch panel on the Main page, trigger the Inject node to show Popup 1. Popup 1 is now displayed and attached to the Main page. Next, trigger the Inject node to flip to Page 2. You will see that Page 2 is displayed without a popup. When you flip back to the Main page, Popup 1 is displayed again because it was never detached from the Main page.
The final UI Navigate node option we will discuss is Custom Command. This option allows you to send commands directly to the touch panel device. A list of supported commands can be found in the Programming Manual for your touch panel. For this example, we will use the ^PPX command, which closes all popup pages.
Drag and drop a new UI Navigate node onto the canvas and configure it with a friendly name, select the Control Panel named dvTP, and choose the Custom Command option. In the field named G5, enter ^PPX, then press Done. When using a custom command, no specific page selection is required. Connect an Inject node, deploy the project, and begin testing.
With the touch panel on the Main page, show Popup 1 and then flip to Page 2. Next, trigger the ^PPX custom command and then flip back to the Main page. You will notice that Popup 1 is no longer displayed, as the ^PPX command closes all popup pages across the entire touch panel.
