Using a D21m Dante Card in an Older Vi2_Vi4_Vi6 Local Rack
Question:
Can I use a D21m Dante card in an older Vi2/Vi4/Vi6 Local rack?
Answer:
Yes, you can. As long as the software is up to date (4.9.0. or higher), the desk will recognize the card and it will appear in the patch. If the desk software is old, the card will not show up.
You need to pay attention to the total I/O channel count. The Vi2/Vi4/Vi6 Local rack has a limit of 192x192 I/O channels in the bottom section of the rack. If you place one MADI card and one Dante card into the unit, you will have 64 channels in/out (MADI) + 64 channels in/out (Dante), it will work fine.
If you use 2 MADI cards (two stageboxes) and you wish to put a Dante card into the rack (for example into the place of the AES 16x16 card in slot E/F), you will have too many channels in the bottom section, so you will have to reduce the Dante card channel count using the on-board DIP switch.
Also, you have the option to upgrade the Vi2/Vi4/Vi6 Local rack to the Vi5000/Vi7000 specifications. This way unit will have 384x384 I/O channels.
The part number of the D21m Dante card is: 5045044.V
