Question:
Why am I losing some ONLINE EVENTS on startup?
Answer:
With some large systems you may lose some of your ONLINE EVENTS, this is due to the amount that the processor has to handle on start up. One way to help alleviate this issue is to use DEVICE HOLDOFF.
With DEVICE HOLDOFF set to ON, at system startup, all of the firmware tasks that interact with external devices will wait to be triggered to start execution. Because of that, no devices will come ONLINE until the delayed “trigger” occurs. This can give the NetLinx Interpreter time to load large NetLinx programs and execute the DEFINE_START before any ONLINE events are received. When DEVICE HOLDOFF is OFF, this trigger occurs immediately following the tasks creation by the OS.
To turn DEVICE HOLDOFF ON or OFF you will need to telnet into the master and issue the command:
- Device Holdoff on (This will turn on the Device Holdoff feature)
- Device Holdoff off (This will turn off the Device Holdoff feature)
DEVICE HOLDOFF is set to off by default in the masters.
