Restoring Player IP Connections in Xpress
Gathering List of Player IP Addresses
It is easiest to do this with an IP scan application if you don’t already have a spreadsheet of player serial numbers to IP addresses. There are many freeware applications to do this. There are also apps that can run on your phone or tablet if you are allowed WIFI access on site.
Modifying the Hosts File
For this part you will need to first open Notepad as administrator. You can do this by pressing the windows key, typing notepad, then right click on the icon for Notepad and select “run as administrator”. Once Notepad opens you will then want to open the hosts file. Click File, Open, then you can paste C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc into the target and press the arrow to the right. Make sure you slect “All Files” in the dropdown or you will not see the hosts file as it does not have a .TXT file extension.

Once you open the file for editing you will simply add a line of text for each player with IP then host name below the comment lines.
Example:
10.35.88.139 spx-123111sp20d0004.local.
Save the file making certain to select “All Files” in the dropdown rather than txt otherwise it will save with a .TXT extension and not be read by Windows. Close Notepad before proceeding as we have seen instances where Windows or Xpress cached the settings and did not make use of the new data until editing of the hosts file had ceased. To test you should then be able to right click on the players in MyDevices tab of Xpress and select Manage or Show Content. These should now resolve the spx- prefixed hostname to the IP address.
